Sick child policy

Sick child

When a child becomes ill at Nursery the first thing we will do is contact the parents to notify them. If the parent would like them to have Calpol administered we will follow our MEDICATION POLICY. Should the child not necessarily be ill enough to warrant going home but they require constant 1:1 from a member of staff then we will ask for the parent to collect them.

An infectious illness is an illness that can be spread from one person to another. We have a duty to prevent the spread of infection within the Nursery which is why we have exclusion periods for certain illnesses/diseases. Please see COMMUNICABLE DISEASES attachment. There are also diseases that by law we have to notify OFSTED and the Local Authority Proper Officers of, please see NOTIFIABLE DISEASES attachment. Parents are always notified of any illnesses/diseases that appear in Nursery along with our policy on it. We currently find our information from the NHS Direct website at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk
